Frequently Asked Questions:

  • How do you test me against various foods? 
    We use Bio-Food Compatibility Testing against 300 common foods and household chemicals. All we need is a small hair sample which you submit with your order form.

  • How can you test which foods are wrong for me?
    The chemical structure of foods can change during processing which will allow you to be allergic to some foods in a group and not others, eg. Corn/cornflakes, cows milk/cheese/cream, sugar/chocolate, wheat bread/wheatbix. We test the end product to you not the whole food family like other tests.  This makes it much easier to follow the program.

  • Are all reactions to foods an allergy reaction?
    No, not all reactions to foods are necessarily allergic reactions.  For example caffeine can cause headaches, animal fats can cause nausea and yeast can cause bloating.  Allergic reactions cause inflammation to tissue and nerves.  Other foods can then aggravate this inflammation.  If you are reacting to foods which have tested ok, you should avoid these as well for antoher 8 weeks or until your condition is greatly improved.  Substances known to have caused anaphylaxis in the past should not be re-introduced.

  • Where does bio-compatibility testing fit in against other means of testing eg.IgA "blood analysis" testing & IgE "skin prick" testing? 
    Antibody tests only reveal the level of antibodies at the time the blook is taken.  These levels can vary a lot from day to day depending on how much food you have eaten and how many antibodies have died off due to nurmal attrition.  Skin tests use a medium of glycerine and synthetic proteins from specific foods.  Our mediums include whole foods and where eaten raw and cooked, both are included.  Our testing is more than an allergy test.  We test, it is about fitting the diet to the individual on an energetic basis.  The test reveals foods that are causing bad health and also identifies highly beneficial foods to help with the repair process.

  • What if I am already avoiding foods that are on the list? 
    Once the allergy process has caused inflammation it is possible that other foods can aggravate that inflammations and result in very similiar symptoms.  This is only a secondary reaction and usually takes up once the inflammation has repaired.  This why we say in our instrucitons that if you are avoiding some foods that have tested ok, you should continue to avoid them, until we have the whole situation under control.

  • Are Hair Analysis Tests Accurate? 
    A hair analysis is not understood in traditional medicine, but is highly respected in the world of forensics, scientific research, and drug testing. A hair analysis works the same as a soil or water sample to a geologist and engineer - it leaves a permanent imprint of the body's environment within the protein in the hair follicles.
  • What is the science behind this test?
    It is extremely difficult to explain the science behind this technology when I am not scientifically trained.  In a nutshell, the science is based on Quantum Physics, we test at the atom level using electomagnectic fields. Hair is a living organism (not dead as your hairdresser may imply).   DNA can be measured from a hair sample. This technology has been fine tuned over 20 years now to compare electomagnetic fields and develop a system to find bio-compatibility with foods eaten by an individual.  Hair analysis testing is becoming widely used as an exceptable form of testing and measuring.  Sports identities are required to submit a hair sample each week as proticol for drug consumption.   • Where is the sample tested and by whom? 
    The test is conducted on the Sunshine Coast, Qld,Australia by Dennis Hodges, the naturopath who controls the testing and is the inventor of this system.

  • Can you dedect in this testing whether you are a coeliac or dairy intolerant? 
    No we do not do general diagnosis.  This technology concentrates on the chemical and biological makeup of the end product of food and how  your system reacts to that. eg. I have many patients who react to milk but are able to tolerate cheese and butter. Think of the end product.

  • Does it have to be a hair sample - I have no hair?
    No, hair can be taken from any part of the body.

  • How much hair do you need?
    It is only a small clump of Hair that we need to successfully do the test. The exact amount is indicated on the order form.

  • How long does it take to get results back?
    Once we have received your precious hair sample we send it to the lab for processing. We let you know when it has gone so you know it will be approximately 5-7 working days at the most from then.

  • How do I get the results?
    We forward the results to you via the email address you provide us with.

  • It the test accurate?
    Yes the test is accurate in my experience to about 80%.  By immediately avoiding the foods indicated in red you can achieve a great deal of releif within as little as 4 weeks.

  • How does the programme work?
    The treatment protocol is to simply build the diet from the list of remaining "safe foods".

  • How long is the programme?
    After the patient has been on the programme for 4 weeks we evaluate progress via the 4 week report. At this time we re-evaluate the symptom profile to determine whether other natural therapies are required. The patient should stay on the programme for 6 months and then be retested.

  • Do I need the Additional Extra food tests?
    No, it is completely your choice if you wish to have these foods in your diet. The 300 General Test is the compulsory one.  The extra lists give you some additional options if you need some gluten free choices, spices etc.

Asthma

Q. What else can I do to help ASTHMA?

Eating Bio-Incompatible foods can lead to Asthma. Allergy reactions lead to the release of inflammatory mediators into the blood. These inflammatory mediators can then accumulate in different parts of the body and cause irritation to nerve endings and tissue. Quite often they will concentrate on existing weak areas. If the inflammation is in the lung area it is referred to as ASTHMA.

Production of mucous is a normal immune response to inflammation of the mucous membrane. Inflammatory mediators released by allergic reactions often centre in the mucous membrane that lines the respiratory tract. Once the membrane and the nerve endings are inflamed the body will create mucous to cover the inflammation to act as a protective coating. The build up of mucous and the swelling of the tissue from the allergy can reduce the diameter of the airwayand restrict oxygen uptake.

In all respiratory problems I recommend avoiding the mucous forming foods or the first 6 weeks on the programme. The main mucous forming foods are all listed in our 9 page report. Other foods containing components that have a direct affect on the nervous system can trigger excess mucous production as well.

Sinus & Hayfever

Q.What else can I do to help Sinus ?

Eating Bio-Incompatible foods can lead to a sinus problem. Allergy reactions lead to the release of inflammatory mediators into the blood. These inflammatory mediators can then accumulate in different parts of the body and cause irritation to nerve endings and tissue. Quite often they will concentrate on existing weak areas. If the inflammation is in the front part of the head it is referred to as a SINUS problem . Once there is inflammation in the sinus cavities one can get a secondary irritation from airbourne particles. These particles irritate the nerve endings and cause sneezing. This condition is often referred to as hayfever.

Excess mucous is removed by coughing, blowing your nose, or it can drain down the back of your throat, "Post Nasal Drip".

Rashes or Itchy Skin

Q. What else can I do to help rashes ?

Eating Bio-Incompatible foods can lead to Skin rashes. Allergy reactions lead to the release of inflammatory mediators into the blood. These inflammatory mediators can then accumulate in different parts of the body and cause irritation to nerve endings and tissue. Quite often they will concentrate on existing weak areas. If the inflammation is in the skin it is referred to as eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis etc. These various names refer to inflammation in the various parts of the skin.

Olive oil can be used topically to help with dry skin conditions. To help with itching, dissolve 1 tablespoon of bi-carb soda in a cup of warm water and wet the itchy area. Put a cup of bran in an old stocking, soak in warm water and pat the itchy area.

There are definite connections between incompatible foods and headaches / migraines. There are many other causes of headaches as well. I have had people completely recover from this dreadful condition, simply by avoiding Bio Incompatible foods. Others have been caused by some toxic reflex from a constipated bowel. Headaches often reflect problems in other areas of the body. Chronic Fatique

Q. What else can I do to help Fatigue?

There is a big difference between tiredness and chronic fatigue. In a lot of cases chronic fatigue follows some viral infection. Post Viral Chronic Fatigue is usually severe and can carry on for many years. These opportunistic viruses can remain in the blood for a long time and will generally make a person tired, headachy, depressed and sore joints and muscles. The virus infection will need to be treated as well. Your Naturopath can recommend the correct therapy to support the immune system to help get rid of the virus. Following this programme will take a lot of the load off the immune system. In some cases I have seen people completely recover on the programme. General Tiredness can be caused by nutritional deficiencies and /or some hormonal imbalances. FIRST STAGE IS ALWAYS GETTING THE DIET RIGHT. A lot of nutritional deficiencies will correct after about 2 months on this programme.

Irritable Bowel

Q. What else can I do to help IBS?

Eating Bio-Incompatible foods can lead to IBS. Allergy reactions lead to the release of inflammatory mediators into the blood. These inflammatory mediators can then accumulate in different parts of the body and cause irritation to nerve endings and tissue. Quite often they will concentrate on existing weak areas. If the inflammation is in the bowel area it is referred to as IRRITABLE BOWEL.

A "syndrome" generally means a non specific disease which can not be diagnosed or related to some other specific disease state. I prefer to consider this problem as simply a "rash on the inside".

Inflammatory mediators released by allergic reactions can cause many of these "rashes".

Acid foods and rough foods such as wheat bran, corn, peas and nuts can aggravate the symptoms.

Yeast will always aggravate an irritable bowel. When bread is eaten the yeast heats up and releases a lot of gas which can irritate the already inflamed nerve endings. The other inflammatory component in bread is gluten. Toasting bread helps kill gluten and yeast. The bread I recommend to eat with all digestive/bowel problems is a sour-dough rye bread that has been toasted.

Flatulence is a normal body process. It is produced by the body to help the food move through the digestive tract. Undigested food can ferment and release a lot of gas. This excess gas is not required by the body’s normal processes and is eliminated quickly. This gas usually has a strong odour.
